Types Of Classes To Consider For Your Maltipoo Puppies

Posted on

A maltipoo puppy is a cross between Maltese and Poodle breeds, so it tends to have some characteristics of each of these breeds. You may wonder if maltipoo puppies would do well in classes such as agility or obedience classes. Here are some of the classes to consider when you have one or more maltipoo puppies in your home.

1. Obedience Classes

Obedience classes are a must if you have one or more new puppies. Learning basic commands will help your puppies function well in your household and improve communication between you and your dogs to reduce frustration and problematic behaviors. Some dogs take more easily to obedience training than others. Fortunately, both poodles and maltese dogs tend to be clever and learn commands relatively easily.

2. Socialization Classes

Socialization classes are great for puppies who don't get a lot of socialization throughout the day, or if you want to make sure your puppy has as many chances to learn good manners around other dogs as possible. In socialization classes, your puppies will learn positive ways to interact with other dogs and humans. And the class will be supervised by an experienced trainer, so you can also learn good techniques for supervising your puppies' interactions and good training skills to help your puppy develop good behavior.

3. Agility Classes

While you may think of a maltese dog as a silky-coated companion dog, they can also be quite active. And poodles can be strong, active, and agile dogs. So a maltipoo can be very capable of agility training and may enjoy performing on agility courses.

If you enjoy working together with your dog toward a common goal, introducing your puppy to agility through some beginning agility classes is a great idea. You can try out agility courses and see if they're right for you and your maltipoo puppy.

4. Scent Detection Classes

Scent detection is another activity that can be fun for dogs. You don't have to use it for hunting or police work (although hunting and police dogs do use this skill.) It can just be a fun way to spend time with your dog. Since poodles are excellent at detecting smells, your maltipoo will likely have a good nose, so try out a scent detection class and see how you and your dog like it.

These are just a few types of classes that you can take your maltipoo puppies to for educational or enrichment purposes. Get in touch with a local dog trainer or dog agility training facility to learn more about placing your puppies in classes.
